The populations of the forest are nicknamed the caboclos. They are the descendants of the half cast Indians who came with the Portuguese who came from all over Brazil. About 150 years ago to work on the rubber plantation Their life was very tough. It has changed very much since then, they are very close to the life of the Indians of the forest. The ONG with their billions of dollars look after the animals that are herded into reserves for Indians. It’s the people who can look after themselves who last and it’s everyone or themselves. When they are young they have to take care of themselves without any education the young girls get pregnant, which makes their families happy. In a modern day contrast, there it is considered to be rich, the television is their king in the heart of the family. Most of them don’t have any electricity .Quite a large portion of the population don’t have a fridge. Between tradition and being up-to-date their liberty is under international pressure. The Caboclos have today a real identity problem and try to survive as best they can in the forest which doesn’t really belong to them and are instruments of corruption.
